About The A Pot of Gold Shared Half Marathon and 5K

The Pot of Gold Shared Half Marathon and 5K, held on March 23, 2024, in Oskaloosa, IA, promises an exhilarating and picturesque race experience. Set on the stunning Mahaska County Recreation Trail, the course winds its way through the charming city of Oskaloosa, offering participants a blend of urban and scenic running.

Starting at the new Lacey Complex Stadium, the race boasts ample parking and a central location, ensuring convenience for all participants. The course, although hilly, rewards runners with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, making every uphill battle worth the effort. The race concludes back at the community stadium, allowing for a grand finish and post-race celebrations.

Organized by the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Reserves, this event supports a noble cause—the proceeds go towards a scholarship for a deserving male and female runner, while also contributing to other reserve funding projects within Mahaska County. By participating in this race, runners not only challenge themselves but also contribute to the betterment of the local community.

Apart from the rewarding cause, participants have the opportunity to win medals. The top three individuals in each age division for both the half marathon and 5K will receive medals, as will the top relay teams and teams. Additionally, all finishers of the half marathon will be awarded a well-deserved medal.

With regard to the weather, March in Oskaloosa, IA, is typically characterized by mild and pleasant temperatures, making for ideal running conditions. Runners can expect comfortable weather, creating an enjoyable atmosphere throughout the race.

To add to the excitement, packet pick-up will be held the day before at the Emergency Management Agency Building, ensuring a smooth race day experience. Long sleeves will be handed out, but availability is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
