About The Black Bear Trail Runs

The Black Bear Trail Runs in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire is a scenic and exciting half marathon race that takes place on 2 September, 2023. Held annually since 2014, the race is known for its challenging but manageable course and stunning views of the White Mountains.

The route begins at the Town Square in Waterville Valley and follows an out-and-back loop along one of the park’s most beautiful trails. Runners will ascend to over 2000 feet above sea level as they make their way through dense forests with babbling streams and rocky cliffsides while getting a glimpse of some of the area’s highest peaks such as Mount Tecumseh. The descent from this high point offers spectacular views of surrounding valleys before runners return to town via a gentle grade down into Waterville Valley.

Weather conditions can vary greatly during this time of year; however, temperatures tend to be mild with mostly sunny skies throughout September in New Hampshire. With elevation gains on both sides of the course, there may also be cooler weather or rain showers depending on when you run it so making sure you are properly dressed for all conditions is essential!

Typically crowds at this event are small but enthusiastic due to its somewhat remote location; however there are usually plenty people cheering you on from start to finish which creates an incredibly supportive atmosphere throughout your journey!
