About The GAP Trestles Marathon

The GAP Trestles Marathon in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania is a half marathon that takes place on 30 September 2023. The race stretches along the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail, making it one of the most scenic races in Pennsylvania.

The route starts and finishes at the historic Big Savage Tunnel. During this point-to-point course, runners will pass through small towns and villages like Confluence, Rockwood, and Ohiopyle State Park. Runners can expect to see lush forests with trees changing colors during fall as well as exceptional views of the Youghiogheny River Gorge during their run.

In terms of weather conditions for this time of year in Pennsylvania, temperatures are usually mild but can also be unpredictable so participants should come prepared for anything from sunshine to rain showers throughout the day.

Participants can look forward to plenty of support throughout their journey since locals along the route always cheer them on while they make their way down towards Meyersdale where they eventually cross over into downtown town via an old steel bridge before heading back up over another tunnel towards homebase at Big Savage Tunnel.

When it comes to crowds there’s never any shortage here – spectators often turn out not only for local racers who live nearby but those from far away too! In addition, there are plenty of volunteers along each mile marker offering water and snacks which makes this a very welcoming race experience overall.

One thing that really sets this event apart is that every participant receives a unique finisher medal after crossing the finish line – all medals feature images taken directly from paintings found inside some local churches located near both ends of GAP trail! This is truly a special little touch that you won’t find anywhere else!

Overall if you’re looking for an unforgettable autumn experience then put GAP Trestles Half Marathon on your list; its unique terrain combined with spectacular scenery throughout makes it one you won’t want to miss out on!
