About The Pierre Half Marathon

The Pierre Half Marathon in Pierre, South Dakota is a race that offers something for everyone. For the experienced runner looking for a challenge, it provides an exciting course with plenty of hills and winding roads to keep you on your toes. The race starts at the Lewis and Clark Lake State Recreation Area, then winds through downtown before heading out into the countryside. Along the way you can take in some beautiful views of farmland, rolling hills and woodlands as well as glimpses of wildlife such as deer and wild turkeys.

The typical weather during this time of year is mild but unpredictable; temperatures range from low 50s to high 70s Fahrenheit with occasional showers or thunderstorms possible throughout the day. Fortunately there are plenty of aid stations along the route equipped with water and energy drinks so participants can stay hydrated no matter what Mother Nature throws their way!

As far as crowds go, this half marathon typically attracts around 500-600 people from all over South Dakota who come to participate or cheer on friends/family members taking part in it. There are also usually quite a few spectators lining up along sections of the route cheering runners on which really helps boost morale especially when fatigue sets in after mile 8 or so!

One unique aspect about this particular race is that unlike most other marathons where finishers receive medals upon completion, here they get something even more special – an original piece of art created by local artists depicting scenes from around Pierre including its famous riverfront boardwalk area known locally as “River Walk” (also featured prominently on one side). While these pieces aren’t necessarily worth anything financially speaking they certainly make great souvenirs for those lucky enough to finish!

Overall I think anyone looking for a challenging yet scenic half marathon should definitely consider participating in Pierre Half Marathon – whether it be your first time running 13 miles or hundredth – you won’t regret it!
