The Experience

On a late September morning, runners gather at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro for the Heart & Sole Half Marathon. The race, now in its 16th edition, draws about 90 participants each year from around 7 states. About a fifth of the field are repeat runners, a testament to the race’s loyal community feel.

The USATF-certified course rolls through mostly paved roads, offering a mix of gentle hills and flat stretches. Volunteers and police keep the route well marked and safe, with Powerade and water stations spaced along the way. The 3.5-hour time limit is strictly enforced, so runners know to come prepared.

Finishers earn a medal (if registered by the deadline) and enjoy post-race food. The small, supportive atmosphere and straightforward organization make this a reliable stop for those chasing a certified half in the Arkansas Delta.
