The Experience

The Dog Days of Summer race series at Long Beach, CA, offers a sun-soaked celebration along Alamitos Beach. Runners can choose from a 5K, 10K, 10-miler, or a half marathon, with the latter two distances first run in 2023 and now in their third year.

The course is primarily a flat, out-and-back along the beach path, making it a potential PR course. Typical race-day weather ranges from a comfortable 63–80°F, ideal for pushing the pace. The event partners with K9 Kismet, even offering a doggie dash after the 5K, adding a unique, fun element to the day.

Post-race, participants can enjoy treats, and the event aims for a feel-good atmosphere. While field size and repeat runner rates are not detailed, the event's coastal setting and unique dog-friendly activities contribute to its appeal for summer runners.
