The Experience

The All-Out Polar Prowl, now in its 14th year, kicks off the Denver-area half-marathon season from the Stenger Sports Complex in Arvada, Colorado. Runners set out on a flat loop along the Van Bibber Creek Trail, with views of Table Mountain and the city's open spaces. With a median field of just 78 finishers, it's an intimate, community-driven event — about 14% of runners return each year.

The course is a spectator-friendly loop, allowing friends and family to cheer on half-marathoners three times before the finish. The flat terrain makes it a prime opportunity for a personal record or a BOLDERBoulder qualifying time. Despite the small size, the race packs personality: a penguin costume contest and support for Penguins International add a whimsical touch.

Post-race, finishers receive a custom buff/gaiter as swag. The early-March date often brings crisp weather (highs around 38°F), but the well-marked, flat course keeps the focus on speed. It's a hidden gem for those seeking a low-key, well-supported race with stunning mountain backdrop.

Race-provided description

Join us for the 14th annual Polar Prowl at the Stenger Sports Complex in Arvada, CO! As the first Denver-area half marathon of the year, this event features 5K, 10K, and half marathon courses that meander along the Van Bibber Creek Trail, offering breathtaking views of Arvada's open spaces and Table Mountain. Because the courses are relatively flat, it is the perfect opportunity to chase a personal record or secure a qualifying time for the BOLDERBoulder. We are proud to support Penguins International with this event, and we invite you to join our penguin costume contest. The layout is incredibly spectator-friendly, featuring a viewing area just a short walk from the venue where fans can cheer on half marathoners three times and 5K or 10K athletes once before they hit the finish line.
