The Experience
Ocala greets the new year early. The gun goes off at 8:00 a.m., packet pickup opens half an hour before and closes ten minutes prior, and everything runs through RunSignup — no day-of registration, no fuss. It's the fourth edition on record, and the field is growing each year.
The half marathon here asks for patience as much as legs. Runners cover a 1.64-mile paved out-and-back four times, on the same flat course the 5K, 10K and marathon fields use. There is nothing to climb, so the day becomes a rhythm of turning around and heading back out — out and back, out and back — under a six-hour limit that keeps things unhurried.
Afterward comes the part runners remember: a social and awards ceremony at Twin Oaks Mansion in Silver Springs, ticketed separately and limited, set for January 3. Every entry includes a US Road Running shirt, and the bathrooms sit by the playground. Modest, local, and built to start the year the way a lot of runners like — with miles banked before most people are awake.

US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. EMS is not stationed on site, and water stations are limited to the finish area at the end of each lap and at the race finish.
