Melbourne sits on Florida's Space Coast, between Miami and Jacksonville and east of Orlando and Tampa — a warm-winter address that has hosted this half marathon since 2009. Now in its 17th year, the race brings roughly 770 finishers across the line, a field that is still growing, with runners traveling from about 29 states. It lands a month after the Disney Marathon, which makes it a natural second stop for anyone chasing Florida sunshine in the middle of winter.

The day is built around the course itself. Organizers station up to a dozen musical acts along the half and full marathon routes, so live music follows the runners through much of the race, and the route is billed as genuinely scenic. The field is small enough that you are never swallowed by it, and large enough that the start and finish carry real energy.

What keeps people coming back is the loyalty: roughly a quarter of the field — about 26 percent — returns in later years, a striking number for a race this size, and that spread across 29 states speaks to its draw.
