2027 Long Grove's Oktoberfest Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Long Grove's Oktoberfest Half Marathon, first run in 2010 and now in its 16th edition, provides a relaxed atmosphere for runners seeking a straightforward race. The course, primarily on paved roads, is noted for its flatness, making it a potentially fast option for personal bests, with one reviewer highlighting its suitability for 50-staters looking for a less expensive, low-key event.

Runners can expect a route that winds through historic downtown Long Grove, past the picturesque covered bridge, and through some local neighborhoods. While described as very flat by some, others mention inclines and declines, suggesting a gently rolling profile. The race typically sees around 372 finishers, drawing participants from about 11 states, and a repeat-runner rate of approximately 14% speaks to its loyal following.

The event aims for a festive finish with post-race beer and pretzels, though some reviews note these items were not served at ideal temperatures. Despite minor quibbles, the race is generally considered well-organized, offering a pleasant, low-stress experience for those who appreciate its small-town charm and forgiving terrain.
