2027 Marion Arts Festival Half Marathon

The Marion Arts Festival Half Marathon is less a standalone race than the opening act of a town's biggest weekend. The course runs through the festival streetscape of Uptown Marion, Iowa, and the morning's miles give way to an arts festival of fine art, live music, and local food — the run is the curtain-raiser, the celebration the main event.

This is a modest, hometown affair: recent editions have drawn around 144 finishers, with a median nearer 184 across its history, and roughly a quarter of runners come back in later years. It's the kind of field where you recognize faces. The half is joined by a 5K run/walk, both organized in partnership with Corridor Running, and the racing is honest — one visiting runner found hills "but I've seen worse," with a stretch through a park and a cemetery that lent the course an unusual, memorable character. Roads are fairly well marked, so getting lost isn't a worry.

Expect a normal road race with a few climbs and a distinctly local feel, run in mild late-spring conditions — typically in the 50s to mid-70s with light rain chances and a steady breeze. It won't hand you a flat, screaming PR course, but it will hand you a festival at the finish.
