The Experience
The Legend takes runners through Sleepy Hollow State Park's 2,600 acres of hardwood forest and prairie grassland, with Lake Ovid glinting through the trees. The course is mostly grass-covered, a forgiving surface, but punctuated by steep hills that keep it honest. Now in its 14th edition, the race draws a modest field of around 70 to 100 finishers, making it a low-key alternative to bigger events.
The atmosphere is unhurried and focused, with volunteers and park staff providing support. Runners earn a finisher's woodallion on a paracord lanyard—a unique keepsake—and post-race food. With distances of 5, 10, or 13.1 miles, it's an intimate trail experience that rewards the adventurous.

Join us for The Legend 5 Mile, 10 Mile or 13.1 Mile run! Sleepy Hollow State Park has 2600 acres of hardwood forest, prairies grassland and the 410 acre Lake Ovid. This fun course is mostly grass covered, the perfect running surface! Some steep hills but none too long!
