2027 Bemidji Blue Ox Marathon

The Bemidji Blue Ox half-marathon is a celebration of northern Minnesota's lake country, centered on the shimmering expanse of Lake Bemidji. Runners loop through Lake Bemidji State Park and past Bemidji State University, with the lake as a constant companion—a setting that feels remote and refreshing. The course is mostly paved and gently rolling, a forgiving route that has drawn a growing field of around 440 runners in recent years, hailing from some 14 states.

The race is part of a larger festival of distances—full marathon, 26K Lake Loop, 5K, and kids' runs—but the half has its own intimate energy. With a loyal return rate of nearly 20%, it's the kind of event where locals and repeat visitors swap stories at the start line. The small-town atmosphere means easy parking and a relaxed vibe, with volunteers and spectators offering genuine cheers rather than manufactured noise.

Crossing the finish line in downtown Bemidji, runners are rewarded with post-race food and the satisfaction of a well-run, unpretentious race. Now in its 12th edition, the Blue Ox half is a hidden gem for those seeking a scenic, low-key PR course or a weekend getaway to Minnesota's north woods.
