2027 Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival

Twenty-nine years in, the Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival still builds its whole weekend around nine miles of clear water. Sunday's half marathon, marathon and four-person relay trace the shore of Schroon Lake in the heart of the Adirondack Park; Saturday brings a 5K, 10K and kids' fun run to Chestertown. Race-day weather usually sits somewhere between the low fifties and mid sixties.

The half is a road race on a USATF-certified course with a faint net drop — nothing dramatic, just a profile that lets you settle into a rhythm while the lake keeps reappearing through the trees. This is not a stadium-sized event: roughly 300 finishers in recent years, drawn from some 26 states.

That scale is the appeal. About a quarter of the field comes back in later years, and the finish — post-race refreshments, beer from Paradox Brewery — feels less like a mass-produced race and more like a town that has been hosting runners for nearly three decades.
