The Experience
The NYCRUNS Falling Leaves Half Marathon takes runners on a scenic tour of Brooklyn's Prospect Park during prime fall foliage season. The course consists of nearly four full loops of the park plus a final sprint up Center Drive to the finish in the Nethermead. With essentially no elevation gain, this USATF-certified route is flat and fast—ideal for a personal best or a relaxed long run in marathon training.
Now in its seventh edition through 2025, the race has grown to attract roughly 2,200 finishers, drawing participants from about 31 states. About 5% of runners return each year, a testament to the event's welcoming atmosphere. Post-race, runners enjoy bagels with cream cheese, fresh fruit, and hydration, plus a standout finisher medal—the 'Medal Alert!' bling that the race promotes. Typical weather is mild, with average temperatures between 49 and 65°F and low precipitation, making for ideal running conditions.
The Falling Leaves Half offers a well-organized, community-focused experience. With pace-based corrals, ample aid stations, and bag check, the logistics are smooth. The park setting provides shaded stretches and colorful autumn views, while the loop course allows spectators to catch runners multiple times. It's a perfect blend of fall scenery, fast pavement, and New York City park charm.
