2027 New River Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

The New River Half Marathon winds along the banks of one of America's oldest rivers, through the Blue Ridge Mountains near Todd, North Carolina. The course is almost entirely paved, following the New River through Christmas tree farms, horse pastures, and mountain vistas. Despite its setting, the route is surprisingly flat—though a few gentle hills add character, totaling around 800 feet of ascent over the half marathon distance. Runners start in Fleetwood and loop back to the start/finish area, with well-marked turns and energetic crowd support from the small towns along the way.

The race draws about 750 finishers each year from around 23 states, and roughly 15 percent return year after year. The event is in its 16th edition, growing steadily on its reputation for stunning scenery and warm hospitality. The finish line offers locally crafted wooden medallions from Blue Ridge Mountain wood, plus treats from Stick Boy Bread Co.
