The Experience

Run Oak Island is a flat and fast coastal race that takes runners along the oceanfront roads of Oak Island, North Carolina. With 11 editions on record, the recent field of ~900 runners draws from 39 states, and about 15% return each year. The half marathon course tours the island's ends, passing the lighthouse and crossing a bridge, with no elevation gain and minimal turns, making it a PR-friendly favorite.

The race weekend spans two days, with the ultra, full, and half marathons on Saturday, and shorter distances on Sunday. February temperatures average 58°F high and 41°F low, ideal for fast times. The after-party features beer, BBQ, and awards, and finishers receive huge 3D medals and custom tri-blend shirts. Whether you're chasing a personal best or a scenic run by the ocean, Run Oak Island delivers a well-organized, festive experience.
