The Experience
The Turkey Chase in Raleigh, NC, offers a flat, fast loop through William B. Umstead State Park, held the weekend after Thanksgiving. It's the perfect post-feast option to work off the holiday calories, with distances from 5K to the half-marathon.
Runners gather at RallyPoint Sports Grill, then take a shuttle bus to the start line in the park. A staggered start at 8:30 AM sends participants off by distance, and the course closes at 11:30 AM. The race draws participants from about six states, and the winning half-marathon time typically hovers around 90 minutes. Typical race-day weather brings cool temperatures in the 40s and 50s with low chance of rain.
The finish line is back in the park, and the event is part of Fit & Able's series, offering runners the chance to combine all five half-marathons for an Ultra Series 65.5 title. While the race is small, its flat park course and convenient shuttle make it a no-fuss way to race through the holiday weekend.
