The Experience
The Little Miami Trail Challenge brings runners to John Bryan State Park, a gem in southwest Ohio carved by the Little Miami River. This is a young race from Wolf Pack Running, who describe themselves as “the Ohio trail running experts.” The half marathon winds along the river through a National Natural Landmark—a limestone gorge with striking rock formations and dense forest canopy.
With only one edition on record, the race is still finding its footing. Early results suggest a modest field and a winning time around 1:42. The course is trail, though the elevation data (listed as flat) may be unreliable given the gorge setting. The event also offers a 10K, 5K, and 20K relay, plus a 6-hour endurance challenge. It may appeal to those seeking a low-key trail run in a scenic state park, with camping nearby at the park's often-sold-out campground or at a rustic retreat in Xenia.
Race-provided description
Join the WOLF PACK for a trail 1/2 Marathon, 6 Hours of Power, 10K, 5K & 20K Relay in John Bryan State Park! John Bryan State Park is distinguished by its remarkable limestone gorge, which the Little Miami State and National Scenic River cut many years ago. The gorge, a National Natural Landmark, offers hikers splendid views from the trail. RACE PERMITTED UNDER SPECIAL USE AUTHORIZATION FROM JOHN BRYAN STATE PARK The John Bryan campground is nice but sells out fast. Another fantastic option is to stay at the Rustic Retreat in Xenia (a short drive away). The owners of the Rustic Retreat, which includes vintage Airstream campers and cozy guest rooms, are PACK PASS members and sponsors of the Wolf Pack running series. You can contact them directly at (937) 829-1829.
