Arches Marathon and Half

Moab, Utah, is canyon country: sandstone, big sky, and air dry enough that 53°F at the start can feel like a gift. The Arches Marathon and Half holds its 21.1 km on that landscape, with race-day temperatures typically climbing toward the high 70s under 8 mph winds and almost no chance of rain.

The half runs alongside a marathon, a 50K and a 9-miler, and the fields stay small enough to feel like a shared enterprise — roughly 300 half finishers in a recent edition. Yet those runners come from about 35 states, which tells you what the name already suggests: people are willing to travel for this one. It's quick at the front, too, with a recent winning time around 1:23.

Entry numbers have held steady rather than ballooned, which suits a race set in a town that serves as a gateway to some of the most photographed country in the West. A steady field, a fast front end, and a desert morning that does most of the talking.
