The Experience

As the sun sinks over Puget Sound, Twilight at the Bay sends a compact field of about 70 runners onto the paved loops of Chambers Bay. The course—an impeccably paved route with flat stretches, inclines, and switchbacks—offers shifting vistas of the Bay that seem to change with every stride. With roughly 220 feet of gain per loop, the rolling terrain is gentle enough for a comfortable 13.1-mile workout, but the panoramic views of the water and the memory of the US Open once held here lend the run a quiet grandeur.

Runners pass through the same stunning scenery multiple times, each lap revealing new angles of the sunset-tinted landscape. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, far from the clamor of a megamarathon—just you, the evening light, and a handful of fellow runners. The finish line is low-key, with post-race details still taking shape, but the real reward is the unique experience of a half marathon staged at twilight in one of Washington’s most scenic parks.
