The Experience
The Wisco Lakeside Half Marathon, part of the Rockin Brews series, circles Lake Monona with the Madison skyline as a backdrop. Now in its fifth edition, the race draws around 250 to 350 runners each year, with participants from 22 states and a loyal core of about 17% returning annually.
The course is a paved loop around the lake, offering constant water views and moderate hills that keep it interesting without being punishing. Runners praise the scenic route and the well-organized aid stations. The flat stretches invite a strong finish, but the rolling terrain means it's not a pure PR course.
The finish line festival is the highlight: unlimited free beer, cider, food, and live music turn the post-race into a celebration. It's a small, community-focused event with big personality — perfect for runners who want a quality half without the mega-race crowds.
