There is nothing quite like the energy of race weekend. Whether you are chasing a new personal best, pacing a friend through their very first 13.1, or just enjoying the miles in a new city, crossing that finish line is always worth celebrating. This past weekend, the half marathon community showed up in a big way, with thousands of runners hitting the pavement.

The standout event of the weekend took us to Alabama for a massive race that brought runners together from all over the country. Let's dive into the numbers and celebrate the miles.

Race to Space

The 2026 Race to Space in Alabama drew an incredible crowd this year. With 16,551 finishers crossing the line, the energy on the course was undeniable. It is always inspiring to see a field of this size, packed with everyone from seasoned veterans to first-timers tackling the half marathon distance. The race also pulled in a geographically diverse crowd, with 25 different states represented among the runners.

At the front of the pack, Michael Smith from Lawrenceville, Georgia, took the overall win. He crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 1:14:37, holding a blistering 5:42 per mile pace.

But the heart of any half marathon is found in the middle of the pack. The median finish time for this year's race was 2:18:18, a testament to the steady, dedicated runners who put in the training miles to get to the finish line. Whether runners were aiming for a specific time goal or just out to enjoy the journey, it was a fantastic day of racing.
