Fall Creek Falls Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Road Runs | Race Spotlight

If you’ve been looking for a summer half that won’t leave you baking on asphalt, the Fall Creek Falls Half Marathon, 10K & 5K Road Runs might be exactly what you need. Set in Tennessee’s most popular state park, this flat, looped road race offers shade, cooler temps, and one seriously scenic backdrop. It’s happening Sunday, August 16, 2026 — and registration is already open.

The Course: Flat, Fast, and Shaded

The half marathon is a loop course that begins and ends in the Taft Village area, crossing the Fall Creek Falls Dam. The terrain is flat — a rarity for Tennessee — which makes it a solid candidate for a personal best or a confident first half. Runners stay on paved roads and paths, with plenty of tree cover to help beat the August heat.

There are five aid stations along the route, stocked with water and Gatorade. The race organizers strongly suggest carrying a bottle or hydration container for refills — smart advice for any summer race.

The Experience: Waterfalls, Music, and a Finisher Medal

Fall Creek Falls State Park is home to the highest free-falling waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. Even if you’re focused on your running, the scenery is a welcome distraction. After you cross the finish line, expect post-race snacks, music, and a finisher medal for every distance. Yes, the 5K and 10K runners get medals too.

The race starts at 7:00 AM Central Time (10K at 7:15, 5K at 7:30), so you’ll catch the coolest part of the day. And with no on-site registration, you’ll need to sign up in advance — packet pickup happens Saturday evening or race morning.

Who This Race Is For

This is a race that works for a lot of different runners.

First-timers will appreciate the flat course, the early start, and the supportive atmosphere. The loop means you’re never far from aid or encouragement, and the post-race party is a great way to celebrate your first 13.1.

PR-seekers will find the flat profile tempting. The main challenge is the heat — typical highs hit 84°F — but the shade and 7 AM start help. If you pace smartly and hydrate well, this could be the race where you knock time off.

50-state chasers will love checking off Tennessee with a race that’s centrally located near Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. It’s easy to get to and offers a unique setting you won’t find in most states.
