Mora Half Marathon & 5K: Race Spotlight & Review

If you’re looking for a flat, fast, and friendly half marathon to kick off late summer, the Mora Half Marathon & 5K on Saturday, August 15, 2026, deserves a spot on your calendar. Nestled in the small town of Mora, Minnesota, this race offers a USATF-certified loop course, a welcoming community atmosphere, and enough small-town charm to make the drive totally worth it.

Whether this is your first 13.1 or one of many, the Mora Half Marathon is a solid pick for runners who want a straightforward course and a genuinely supportive race day experience.

The Course: Flat, Fast, and Certified

The half marathon is a loop course on roads, and it’s flat — which means you don’t have to worry about surprise hills. The course is USATF certified, so it’s a legitimate option if you’re chasing a PR or qualifying for something down the road. The 5K is also certified, and both courses are well-marked and measured.

One note: the race organizers are upfront that road construction could potentially alter the course. If that happens, they’ll still measure the exact 13.1 miles and 5K, just on a slightly different route. It’s a rare scenario, but good to know you’ll always get the full distance.

Experience & Atmosphere: Small Town, Big Heart

Mora knows how to put on a race. The start is at 7:30 AM for the half marathon, and the 5K kicks off at 7:45 AM. There’s also a free kids’ race immediately after the 5K starts — perfect if you’re bringing the family. The whole event feels low-key but well-organized, with volunteers who actually seem happy to be there.

Pre-race bib pickup and same-day registration run from 6:15 to 7:00 AM on race morning. If you want a shirt, pre-register by August 1, 2026. They offer women’s and unisex cuts (the women’s is a slim fit, so consider sizing up). After the race, any unclaimed shirts are available for others, so there’s a good chance you’ll snag one even if you register late.

Who Is This Race a Fit For?

First-timers: The flat course and supportive community make Mora an excellent first half marathon. The loop means you’ll see familiar landmarks, and the 7:30 AM start gives you cooler morning temps.

PR-seekers: Flat, certified, and a mid-August date means you can train through summer and test your speed. The typical high of 78°F and low of 61°F are manageable — just bring hydration and pace yourself.

50-state chasers: Minnesota is a great state to check off, and Mora’s small-town vibe is a nice contrast to big-city races. The race scores a 70 out of 100 on our quality scale, making it a Standout pick.
