The Experience

Under the wide Arizona sky, in the reliably dry and mild conditions typical of Tucson's winter—temperatures hover in the 60s and 70s with zero expected precipitation—the Holiday 5K, 10K & 13.1M offers a no-frills, straightforward race experience. The half marathon course is a simple out-and-back on paved roads, repeated four times to reach the full distance, with a generous 3.5-hour time limit that welcomes runners of all paces.

The atmosphere is decidedly low-key, typical of a small local race without the bustle of a major event. Packet pickup is brief—just 30 minutes before the start—and there's no on-site registration, keeping organization lean. While the course may lack dramatic elevation change or iconic landmarks, the desert landscape and reliable sunshine provide a clean, uncluttered backdrop. Runners earn a finisher medal and are eligible for awards, plus a best-costume contest adds a touch of festive fun.

This is a race for those who value simplicity and a no-pressure environment. It's particularly well-suited for first-timers tackling the half marathon distance, or for anyone looking for a low-commitment, affordable race during the holiday season. With its steady, small field, it's a hidden gem for runners seeking a quiet, personal challenge.

Race-provided description

US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. EMS is not stationed on site, and water stations are limited to the finish area at the end of each lap and at the race finish. Please plan for the weather, bring anything you may want between laps, and check in with race staff if you need help.
