The Experience
The Faxon Law New Haven Road Race, now in its 49th year, kicks off Labor Day on the historic New Haven Green. Drawing around 1,300 runners from 35 states, it’s a cherished holiday tradition that blends community celebration with elite competition—it’s the USATF 20K National Championship. The starting line buzzes with energy as runners prepare for a straightforward challenge.
The course is a flat, point-to-point route certified for accuracy, making it a prime target for personal bests. The weather in early September can be warm and humid (averaging 62–77°F), but the pancake-flat terrain offers no excuses. Spectators line the streets of New Haven, and the finish line on the Green brings a sense of accomplishment.
Post-race, runners receive a commemorative shirt and can enjoy the holiday atmosphere. Whether chasing a PR or just enjoying the holiday run, this race delivers a smooth, fast experience from start to finish.
