Runners head out through the Nature Center and onto a 3.28-mile out-and-back path, then repeat it four times to reach 13.1. The surface is a mix of concrete and asphalt, pancake-flat, with a six-hour time limit that keeps the day forgiving for walkers and first-timers alike.
The setting is pure Gulf-coast Florida: warm, humid mornings in the 57–75°F range, a light breeze off the water, and a course that stays close to the Nature Center where the start, finish, and bathrooms all live. It's a small, steady race — recent editions have drawn runners from about three states, and the winning half time sits near 89 minutes, so the front of the pack moves but the field stays welcoming.
With 5K, 10K, and marathon options on the same looped route, the Pirate series is more neighborhood gathering than big-city spectacle. Come for the flat miles, the shade of the path, and the easy logistics — packet pickup 30 minutes before the 8 a.m. gun, no on-site registration, and a course you'll know by heart by lap three.

Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. EMS is not stationed on site, and water stations are limited to the finish area at the end of each lap and at the race finish.
