The Experience
Held in Johns Creek, Georgia, the Five Star Thanksgiving Turkey Trot is a popular series offering a half marathon alongside 5K, 10K, and 15K distances. This event, first run in 2011, has grown into a beloved tradition, attracting around 414 finishers in recent years, with participants traveling from approximately 15 states.
The course is a loop, designed to be flat and fast, making it a prime candidate for personal bests. The typical race-day weather in late November hovers between a crisp 40-58°F, ideal for racing. The event emphasizes giving back, with a history of offering free entry to participants who have raced with the organizer earlier in the year, underscoring a strong sense of community and appreciation.
Runners can expect a well-organized event with a shirt as part of the giveaway. While the repeat-runner loyalty is around 6%, the growing field size indicates its increasing popularity as a Thanksgiving-themed running event.
