Redfish Lake Lodge anchors an Idaho summer, and the Memorial Run is how the season opens — the organizers bill it as the most scenic race in all of Idaho. Every race on the card starts and finishes in front of the lodge, so the morning begins and ends on the same shoreline porch, with packet pickup the day before in that very spot.

The routes here trace the lake's north shore and the Point Campground, mixing sand, gravel, pavement and dirt, and they're described as relatively flat — a run for rhythm and views rather than climbing. On the record: about 110 finishers in recent editions, a field that holds steady, and a front pack quick enough to close in roughly 1:26.

This is a small race with a long memory. Runners travel in from around eight states, and roughly 18 percent come back in later years — the kind of loyalty a sold-out event with no day-of registration earns. Nine editions are on record, and the finish puts you back at the lodge, on a lakefront just waking up for summer.
