The Experience
The Love to Run St. Charles Half Marathon, also offering 5K and 10K distances, unfolds in the heart of St. Charles, Missouri, showcasing beautiful river views. The course begins on the paved Katy Trail, known for its soft path and flat profile, ideal for runners seeking a quick time. A unique element is a brief, non-technical, shady trail section that adds a touch of natural beauty, described as a "hidden gem."
While predominantly flat, some reviews mention unexpected hills, particularly on a section of the Hamburg Trail, and the potential for heat due to limited shade on certain parts of the course. The race has been run for at least 4 editions, with a median field size of around 258 finishers recently, attracting runners from about 5 states. Approximately 33% of participants are repeat runners, indicating a loyal following.
The post-race atmosphere at the Bike Stop Cafe promises coffee and beer specials, fostering a social environment. The event is praised for its value and proximity for local runners, though it may not be a destination race for those traveling long distances.
