Snow Joke Half Marathon

The Snow Joke Half Marathon is a winter race like no other, set in the snowy wonderland of Seeley Lake, Montana. With 41 editions under its belt, this small but loyal event draws around 105 finishers each year, many of whom return again and again (about 28% repeat runners). Runners come from roughly 9 states to brave temperatures that average 13–35°F, trading warmth for the thrill of a fast, frozen course.

The race starts at Seeley Lake Elementary School, following a two-lane highway for the first few miles with gradual hills and descents. At the halfway point, it turns onto snowpacked back roads that loop around the lake itself, offering stunning winter views of the water and surrounding mountains. The footing can be tricky on the packed snow, but the course is nearly flat overall — a perfect setting for a solid performance or even a first half-marathon.
