The Experience
The Running From Yeti half-marathon brings a dash of Himalayan folklore to Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a flat, certified loop course that's a PR-friendly romp. Held in January (2026), runners trade the abominable snowman for a cuddly Yeti mascot, Freddie, as they chase a comfy hoodie rather than a medal. The course roads are pancake-flat (elevation gain near zero), ideal for first-timers or speedsters looking to clock a quick 13.1. Typical race-day temps hover in the 40s–60s, making for crisp, fast conditions.
Despite being a recent addition to the calendar, the race has already drawn participants from about five states, with a winning time around 1:28 hinting at a modest but capable field. The event leans into its quirky theme: runners don white attire to match Freddie, enjoy "YETI MUSIC," and finish with a chilly party featuring tasty treats. The post-race spread and the signature hoodie (included for all) add value to a low-key, community-driven atmosphere. For those seeking a fun, not-too-serious half with a unique souvenir, Running From Yeti offers a hidden-gem experience.
Race-provided description
In Nepal's folklore, Yeti is an "abominable Snowman", who looks like an ape, is taller than an average human, and is believed to live in the Himalayas, Siberia, Central and East Asia. Yeti, during pre-19th century, has been believed to be a "Glacier Being" who was worshipped by the indigenous communities. However, in OKLAHOMA, he is a cute big fellar that we can't wait to see this January 23, 2026 to playfully run from him, take pictures with him, high-five him, and have a chilly party with him!
