The Experience

The God's Country Marathon, a race with over 50 years of heritage, beckons challenge-seekers to the heart of Pennsylvania's Potter County. Named by Runner's World as one of the "10 toughest marathons" and "best small marathons," this event offers a unique road racing experience away from the usual crowds, emphasizing beautiful scenery and top-notch service.

The point-to-point course winds west along scenic U.S. Route 6, starting in Galeton and traversing the Susquehannock State Forest towards Coudersport. Runners will encounter the infamous three-mile climb up Denton Hill, crossing the eastern continental divide at an elevation of 2,424 feet, before a rewarding downhill finish into historic downtown Coudersport. This challenging route, with its significant elevation gain and loss, is designed for those who embrace the test.

With a median field size of around 79 finishers and growing, the race draws participants from approximately nine states, a testament to its distinctive draw. A loyal contingent, with about 30% returning in subsequent years, underscores the race's enduring appeal. The typical winning time of around 85 minutes for the marathon reflects the demanding nature of this beloved small-town event.
