The Experience
Forget chasing a PR. The 2Slow4Boston Marathon & Half in Greer, South Carolina, turns the clock upside down: here, the last finisher is the winner—at least in the marathon, where prize money goes to the three slowest. The half-marathon follows suit with trophies and gift cards for its last three. There’s no time limit, only a single aid station stocked with Tailwind, canned sodas, and individually wrapped snacks, plus pizza served around lunch. It’s a celebration of perseverance, not speed.
The course loops through quiet Greer roads, flat as a pancake (elevation gain near zero), making it accessible even for first-timers. The field is intimate—just a few dozen runners from a handful of states—and the vibe is pure low-key community. Runners and volunteers mingle at the finish, where the real party begins for those who took their time.
This is a hidden gem for anyone who’s ever felt too slow for a start line. The organizers emphasize safety and support, and runners are welcome to set up their own self-support station. With a commemorative T-shirt and a finish-line feast, 2Slow4Boston proves that the journey—however long it takes—is worth celebrating.
Race-provided description
The 2Slow4Boston Marathon was created with slow runners in mind and the thought that it might be fun to host an event that would be exclusive to them. This race is all about promoting the aspect of mental toughness that exists in our sport and celebrating the people who can persevere. In this race the last participant is the winner! And we have allocated $20 of every registration to go towards award money for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (the last 3 finishers) of the Marathon event only. There are now a Half-Marathon & 50K races. Although there won't be any prize money for the last participant, the last 3 participants of the will be acknowledge with a trophy and a gift-card. A big perk of this race is its 12-hours generous time limit to complete all events.
